The first documentary testimony of Deta was in 1360, when it was named DED. In 1446 the locality is owned by Nicola Jobágyi Matko, and in 1496 it is owned by Csáki Mihály. In 1552 the locality gets under Turkish rule.

It was released in 1716 by the Austrian imperial army and 2 years later it became an Austrian province. In 1763, 21 Italian and German families were colonized here, and 43201 Germans lived here in the first census of 1777. The Roman Catholic Church was inaugurated in 1900. In 1918 the locality was occupied by the Serbian army, and from 1919 it was a part of Romania.
