The University Library in Cluj was founded in 1872. Parallel there was still a large library, that of the Museum Association in Transylvania. Both collections reached the secessionist building, built between 1906 and 1907, after architects Gierg Kálmán and Korb Flóris.

It was the most modern building of the time. Except for the period 1919-1923, there has arrived and now get a copy of every book printed. Around 1960 it was built a new wing. At present, the collection has nearly 4 million volumes, of which many are rarities.
