Roses park

According to some theories the Roses Park was realized thanks to the contribution of the town's rich women, who brought from abroad, on their own cost, several rose species. In 1891, during the Universal Exposition attended by King Franz Josef, 10 wooden pavilions were set here. The exposition park was realized by Wilhelm Mühle, and it presented more than 300 species of roses. Mühle was the owner of a horticultural garden with 17 solariums, and the roses he cultivated were renowned abroad as well.
In 1942 the park is known as Queen Mary Rosary, but during the years it had several names.
During the II. World War the Rosary was destroyed and it was restored in the 1953-1965 timeperiod, when it reached more than 1200 rose varieties procured from the country and from abroad.
Today, on a surface of only 1 ha, there are hardly 600 species. The 10 000 rose spears are planted in 8 groups, in rhomb-shaped squares, delimited by box fences. The summer theater from the park was built in the Inter-War period.
