Advice TowerRoad: E68/81, DN 14 This towers two archway makes the connection between the big market and the small market. Archeologists claim that the tower was built at the same time as the second defensive wall, between 1224-1241. You can get inside the tower through a small door, from here a spiral staircase leads to the upper storeys. It gained its form through many modifications, from the original tower only the first storey remained, because in 1586 the towers upper storeys collapsed. The small markets fronting bears a memorial board, signaling a tragedy happened in 1586 April 26. On this day Johann David, the archway painter died, buried by the his own work. In two years time the barbican was rebuilt. This was the incident for what the Latin memorial board had been made. On the big market side two stone lion statues watch the passersby. The XIXth century brought a new change, the turret roof system that was used till then was changed to what you can see today.
