The red cross trail starts at the centre of Avrig and travels on the bank of the Raul Mare River on a forest road. We go past lime mines, and after 4 kilometres we reach Poiana Neamţului tourist lodge. We continue our walk and after a while we turn right and enter the woods. At around 30 minutes distance from the tourist lodge we cross the brook and start climbing on Bărcaciu. At 1555m height we find ourselves on a clearing, the location of Bărcaciu tourist lodge.
