Nușfalău, Bánffy castle

The Bánffys settled down in Nușfalău in XV century, built their residence here. About the first mainson of Bánffy Péter is known that was a fortress with four rectangular bastions, defense ditch with water which offered protection to those from inside. In interior yard was the house with five rooms under which a cellar with arches was spreading, servants' house, kitchen, oven. In this old mainson place Bánffy Albert built one floor castle. There are no exact data regarding year of construction, is assumed that was built between XVIII and XIX century. In 1859 is damaged by a fire but was repaired. In 1925 was completly rebuilt, gaining actual form.

With the occasion of last reconstruction the new entrance supported by arches appeared.

Castle's nterior kept its initial look. After entrance an arched hall leads us to stairs, take us to first floor where are bedrooms, livingroom, saloon with piano and a library with 2000 titles. In 1936 Bánffy Albert sold the castle to reformed church.

After nationalization in castle was a consulting room, dentistry, maternity, like other castles, special school with home for children with mental deficiency. Then iron bars at windows were made. We hope that castle's fate will be improved.
