Boghiş had a catholic church even since 1332, it was transformed in a reformed church in XVI century. In 1663 it was destroyed by the Turkish and the Tartars, it was rebuilt in 1674 and was covered with shingle in 1763. The wooden tower was built between 1765 and 1766.

The current church was built between 1792 and 1796 with the support of Bánffy Dénes and Farkas. Bánffy Elek and his wife Györffy Mária, whose bones can be found in church's crypt, have bought the organ and they obtained at Cluj the approvals to build. The clock was built by Kovács István in 1800. In 1917 the bell and the organ pipes were taken away. In 1953 the shingle roof was changed with an iron one.
