The first church of Şamşud locality was built for catholic Christians. In 1626 the catholics passed to the reformed religion, as a result the church was transformed too according to the new religion. In 1784 it was still covered with shingle and the painted walls were whitewashed at the beginning of XIX century. In 1837-1841 the tower was built, in 1856 the clock was installed and in 1873 it was covered with iron. During the restoration in 1972-73 the remains of a gothic window were discovered, fact that certifies the medieval church's origin.

The bells were made in 1652, 1770 and 1830. One was taken in 1848, the other one in the First World War. The church's organ was built in 1861 by Jónás István.
