About the healing potency of Sovata there had been already written in 1597 as well but even so it became watering-place only in 1850. The Bear take took form in 1875 when due to a big rainfall the water triumphed over the salt. The climate of Sovata is caracterized by colder summers and milder winters. The high saltcontent of its helitermal lakes the Bear of 46.000 km2, the Mogyorósi of 9.000 km2, the Green of 5.000 km2, as well as the lakes Black, Purple, Balckbird and Snake assign its helioterm nature. Due to this it stores the warm of the Sun in summertime and the water of the infuluent streams doesn’t mix with the lake’s water but it remains on the surface and it functions as heat-insulator. Summertimes the water of the lake oscillates between 10 and 20 °C, at the depth of 1 m between 30 and 40°C as at the depth of 1,5 m it reaches 40-60°C. The watering-place is mainly visited by those who suffer from gynaecological or rheumatic complaints. Accordingly the curer departments provides hot-water, mud-pack, kinetoterapical, hidroterapical and electroterapical treatments. For those who want to recreate there are gaming-rooms, movies, indoor swimming-pools, discoteques, biliard saloons, sports grounds, boat-houses, fishing posibilities and ski runs. The winter-sport funs may find only 6 km of well-equipped ski runs.
