Zetea dam and lake

DN13a bifurcation, that is 16 km away from Brădești was built between 1976-1993 Zetea dam, creating the largest accumulation of the Upper Tarnava Mare river. It is situated upstream from Subcetate and was designed to retain flood waves, providing water supply to downstream localities and the production of electricity.

Clay core dam has a height of 48 m. On the crest length of 520 m is asphalt and opened to traffic. The lake covers in Târnava Mare and Sicasau valleys accumulating up to 44 million cubic meters of water, creating a lake with an area of 234 ha. Under these conditions the lake is 3,5 km long. The spill is free, ensuring the normal flow rate of the river also in drought.

The dam ensures water for cities Odorheiul, Cristuru Secuiesc, Sighisoara, Medias and Copsa Mica. At the large floods becomes operational and overflow funnel high 32 m, located on the left side of the dam. The lake was populated with Belda, bleak, crucian carp, perch, pike, broad snout, bream, ling, perch and trout. You can fish from the shore, and the boat. Downstream from the dam is a micro hydro power plants.
