The church was built between 1816 and 1829 in a late Baroque-Austrian style. The foundation was made of stones taken from the city walls. The wooden altar is the work of the carpenter Gottfried Schneider. The altar painting was made by Johann Gentiluomo the painter of the Vienna Academy. The pulpit was built by the carpenter Hocs Lukács during 1825-1826. In 1914 the tower of the church was raised by 4 meters, according to the plans of the architect Reményik Károly.
