The house built in 1545 has had several names during history like: Merchants' House, Hirscher house. Nonetheless, it was the largest building in town and its 67.5 height represented the commercial power of the town. Apollonia Hirscher, the widow of Lucas Hirscher, the late mayor, donated 800 guldens for the construction of the commercial centre, or bazaar, where the local guilds could present their merchandise. Repeated fires caused major damage to the building but in 1960 it was restored to its original look. A number of legends were born about the construction; some claim that they say the mere truth. The legend has it that the daughter of Apollonia Hirscher passed away unexpectedly, and a lot of jewelry was buried together with her. At night people came to steal them and as they wanted to cut off one of her finger for a ring she woke up. To celebrate the good news her mother built a merchandise hall for the city. As a reminder, a fresco on the house at 22 Michael Weis street represents Apollonia Hirscher and her daughter. Today Merchants' Houses the Corona gallery.
